Glocester is a town located in northern Rhode Island's Providence County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,746. The villages of Chepachet and Harmony are within the town of Glocester, and it's about 35 minutes to the state capital of Providence. The historic town of Glocester is mostly rural in nature, dotted throughout with scenic lakes and ponds. A portion of the town on the northern end is set aside as state-owned parks and forests. Originally spelled "Gloucester", the town was established in 1639, just three years after the founding of Rhode Island's first settlement of Providence. Documents state "the land was disposed of to Roger Williams and his associates by the sachems of local Indian tribes, who received payment that the sachems deemed satisfactory. There are many historical sites in the town of Glocester, including the Chepachet Village Historic District, the Harmony Chapel and Cemetery and Manton-Hunt-Farnum Farm. The latter is a Federal-style farm built in 1793 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Harmony Chapel and Cemetery is also known as the "Harmony Meeting House" as it was used for town meetings by city officials in the early days. Glocester hosts a Summer Concert Series on Wednesday evenings on the grounds of the Chepachet Union Church. Other special events in town include the Ancients and Horribles Parade, the Heritage Days Crafts & Antiques Fair, Peddlers' Faire, and Candlelight Shopping & Festival of Lights in December.

Glocester Weather & Climate

Northeast Connecticut has four seasons that lie within the transition zone of humid subtropical and humid continental. The pertinent characteristics of Connecticut's climate are: equal distribution of precipitation among the four seasons, large ranges of temperature both daily and annually, and considerable diversity of the weather over short periods of time. Heavy or dense fog is observed on an average of about 25 days per year in both coastal and inland sections. Humidity tends to be lowest in the spring and highest in the late summer. There is a difference of about 6 °F. in mean annual temperature from north to south of the State. The greater contrast of temperature occurs during the winter season.
